How to Start Selling Your Designs on Redbubble 2020

July 13, 2020August 27, 2020 by Design Hustler, posted in Uncategorized

Redbubble artist StateItTee is sharing her tips on selling your Redbubble design.

Getting creative? On Redbubble you too can build a store! There’s never been a better time to leverage on this explosion of creators than it is now! There are quite a few online on-demand prints that let artists create free shops without having to manage the logistics of setting up a website or purchasing an inventory of goods. Whats more? It’s a good way to start because its zero investment. Now it is the time to set up the kind of work you want to establish for yourself and earn some passive income!

Opening a Redbubble shop can be a great way to create your work presence online and reach out to new customers.

I’ve never had a graphic art career.with the help of design software, creating artwork had become easier

I’ve never had a graphic art career. My education is Informatics and Engineering. I had only been an average with art in my school years, but this never stopped me from creating. Besides with the help of design software, creating artwork had become easier. It’s so worth it to have something to produce on its own without having to work for clients, and realizing I can make money off my designs is even better!

Create a Shop on Redbubble

It is pretty easy to sign up for a new Redbubble account. Don’t forget to check your account details, so that you can be paid. For e payment, I am using PayPal which you can easily link to your Redbubble account.

Set up your profile shop

Upload a header showing your work, along with a profile or logo graphic, so people can recognize you instantly. Using the bio overview to let people know who you are, and link to your website and social links. To take an example you can check out my shop:

Branding the Store

Build the collections based on themes or specific categories of your work for your designs. Or if you don’t have a work collection, it would be great to start creating one. You can also check out other artist shops on Redbubble and get an in sight into how they set up their shops. Shops falling into niche markets are doing well and could be focused on current trends or popular culture. Establishing a Redbubble shop can be a perfect way to develop your presence online at work and reach out to new people.

Why don’t you specialize in your artist brand and work it out? First, think about the work that you are doing and the kind of product that you want to do. Then, think about who would want to buy goods for your work. It can help identify a target market and also do some online competitive analysis. See what’s on the trend and for this you can use tools like Google Trends. Find design trends in the home decor room, or perhaps even in the comic world or the media? I focus my designs on retro, comics and cartoons. To make things beautiful I create designs for myself. “Think product first before design” and ask yourself “Would I want to buy this product for myself?”

Upload your Design First

You can only start selling in Redbubble after you have upload at least 5 of your designs. (This is a new update.) If you want to upload to larger products like duvet covers and tapestries, the best file sizes to upload should have a high resolution, at least 7632 px x 6480 px at 300dpi. Bigger is better for fast, one-time uploads, and you can then click to edit each product accordingly. Also, creating and saving files from Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator or Affinity Designer is very necessary. I have been a long-time user of Adobe software or Affinity Designer and I can’t emphasize enough the importance of getting a subscription. I love using both software, and if you want to be a professional artist or designer, getting the professional tools can only help you in the long run.

Promoting to Social Media

Downloadable Mock-up templates in psd format available in Redbubble

I normally like to go to “Manage Portfolio” then click promote products and share my design directly to Pinterest and Facebook. You can also download mock-ups directly from Redbubble and use that for your promotions. To make it look more professional, go to your Dashboard then click “Share your work” page. Here you can find selection of templates to use for marketing your products. These files are in psd format and can be easily adjusted using Adobe Photoshop

Create More Work

Set aside during the week sometime, and set some realistic goals. Figure out how much time during the week you can commit to creating designs. Set weekly targets so that you can remain consistent, and so that your followers know when to expect you to do new work. Creating work on a regular or weekly basis will also help you sort out your art style, and help you with trial and error to refine your work. Regularly check best selling works to get inspiration from them. Check out social media  such as Pinterest and Behance to get some inspirations.
